Coronavirus COVID-19: Impacts on Dogs

The novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus is affecting our lives in many ways. We encourage everyone to follow local, state and federal mandates to help mitigate the impact of this disease. Please consult the US Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization web sites for the latest information on the disease and methods for keeping you and your families (human and canine) safe.

According to the American Kennel Club, there are no known cases of dogs or other common companion animals being infected by the COVID-19 coronavirus. Owners should continue to follow basic hygiene with their dogs, but no special precautions are necessary. There is certainly no need for a dog to wear a face mask.

Many AKC events are being cancelled due to the closure of sites and mandates against mass gatherings. Please check the AKC Events Cancellation page for the latest information.
