COVID-19: 2020 and Beyond
Since the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from China, was first revealed to the world in January 2020 nothing in the world or our lives has been the same. Dog sports were of course affected - including for the first ever cancellation of the BHCA Nationals, with the last events held in late March 2020 and no events held until late June. Training and competition events are slowly coming back but everyone needs to follow all local, regional and national regulations and guidelines so we can put this disease in the past as soon as possible.
As always, please consult your local, state and national health organization (example: US Centers for Disease Control) for the latest information on the disease and methods for keeping you and your families (human and canine) safe.

AKC Suggested Best Practices During COVID-19
The American Kennel Club has published recommended best practices for holding or attending AKC events during the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19: Impacts on Dogs & Dog Sports
A letter to BHCA members from President Richard Nance: Letter to BHCA Membership 4-11-20
According to the American Kennel Club, there are no known cases of dogs or other common companion animals being infected by the COVID-19 coronavirus. Owners should continue to follow basic hygiene with their dogs, but no special precautions are necessary. There is certainly no need for a dog to wear a face mask.
Many AKC events are being cancelled or rescheduled due to the closure of sites and mandates against mass gatherings. Please check the AKC Events Cancellation page for the latest information.
