Finding a Breeder

Before you begin looking for a breeder or visit the litter announcement page, please take the time to read through pages two, three and four of "Discover The Basset Hound". This material will give you an idea of the kinds of questions a good breeder may ask their puppy buyers and what questions you should ask the breeder.

Many members of the Basset Hound Club of America has agreed to have their names listed in the web-based directory.  However, not all BHCA members are breeders and many members who do breed have only an occasional litter.  A listing in the membership roster does not mean that the person currently has puppies or adults available.

When you contact a BHCA member or breeder referral volunteer via email about purchasing a Basset Hound, please include your full name, address, and telephone number.  Please also include a brief description of your circumstances (number of children, house or apartment, own or rent, previous dog ownership experience, do you want a pet, show basset, and/or a performance basset, male or female, puppy or adult, etc).

Many BHCA members do not want their names listed on the web-based roster, but they do have a listing on the official breeder referral list.  For a current breeder referral listing for your area, please contact:
